Announcing our new SFC ambassador: Dr Rangan Chatterjee

We’ve long been fans of Dr Rangan Chatterjee – GP, bestselling author, and host of one of the UK’s most popular health podcasts – so we couldn’t be happier to announce that he’s now an official ambassador for Smartphone Free Childhood.

As a father to teenagers himself, Dr Chatterjee understands just how tricky it can be to navigate phones and social media. And as a GP, he's seen the impact of smartphones in his practice – from rising anxiety and sleep problems, to concentration issues and burnout.

That’s why he’s backing the movement helping families take action.

“The Smartphone Free Childhood movement is empowering families to take action in their homes and communities to reclaim childhood from the powerful, profit-driven corporations that are monetising children’s time and attention.
In the vacuum of meaningful action on this issue from tech companies or the government, SFC are filling the gap, and bringing people everywhere together to stand up for all children’s right to grow up free from addictive algorithms.”

To kick off the partnership, we’ve collaborated with Dr Chatterjee on a brand new resource: 10 tips for families navigating this new frontier in parenting – whether your child already has a smartphone, or you’re feeling the pressure to get them one.

If you’ve listened to his hit podcast Feel Better, Live More, you’ll know that Dr Chatterjee is a calm, clear and thoughtful voice on all things health and wellbeing. He’s had powerful conversations on this issue with guests like Jonathan Haidt, Johann Hari and Anna Lembke, who’ve all explored the deep and lasting effects of smartphones and social media on young minds – and what we can do to protect them.

When respected voices like Dr Chatterjee step up and lend their weight to this movement, they don’t just raise awareness – they help to normalise the idea that delaying smartphones isn’t radical or unrealistic. It’s doable, and it’s often the wisest choice for a child’s wellbeing.

We’re so excited to welcome him to the movement.
