Financial Transparency Statement

At Smartphone Free Childhood, we believe that anyone who supports or interacts with our work – parents, educators, policymakers, researchers and the public – deserves clarity about who we are, how we operate, how we are funded and how we use donated resources. This statement sets out those details openly.
Who we are
Smartphone Free Childhood exists to bring families together to delay smartphones and social media. We work to grow the conversation, create resources, commission research, support community action and encourage evidence-based policy change.
The Smartphone Free Childhood Charitable Fund is a restricted fund managed by Prism the Gift Fund (Charity Number 1099682). This means Prism provides the legal, financial and governance framework for our charitable work in the UK and internationally. Through this structure:
- We operate with appropriate charitable governance and oversight.
- Financial administration, compliance and accountability are managed to meet UK charity law and best practice.
In addition, Smartphone Free Childhood Limited, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee without share capital (16041317) supports activities that are not within the strict legal definition of charitable activity (such as certain advocacy or public engagement work), while ensuring alignment with our mission and legal obligations.
How We Are Funded
Our work is made possible by the generous support of family offices and philanthropic donors who share our vision for healthier childhoods. Some donors have asked to remain anonymous, and we honour that request while still providing transparency about how we are funded.
We do not sell or share donors’ personal information, and we do not accept funding that would compromise our mission, independence or credibility.
Funding sources include:
- Philanthropic donations – from individuals and family offices who support our mission.
- Grants and institutional contributions – where aligned with our charitable objectives.
- Gift Aid on eligible donations – claimed through Prism the Gift Fund in accordance with UK law.
We do not accept commercial sponsorship that could affect our independence, and we do not receive government funding as a condition of policy influence.
How We Use Funds
Donations and grants are used to:
- Cover essential organisational costs, including staff, research, communications and operational expenses.
- Develop public education resources for families and communities.
- Support policy engagement and informed public discussion.
All charitable expenditure is subject to governance oversight by the trustees of Prism the Gift Fund, ensuring that funds are used in a manner consistent with legal requirements and our charitable purpose.
Accountability and Reporting
As part of our charitable status under Prism the Gift Fund:
- Annual financial statements and reports are prepared in accordance with UK charity reporting standards.
- Reports are filed with the Charity Commission, and key financial information can be made available on request.
- We are committed to high standards of financial governance and transparency.
Our Commitment to Transparency
We recognise that trust is essential to our work. We are committed to keeping this statement up to date, and to communicating clearly about our structure, funding, and use of resources as our organisation evolves.
