Let’s reclaim childhood
Smartphones have fundamentally reshaped childhood.
Not because this is what any of us want for our kids. Just because, until now, choosing another path has felt impossible.
That’s why this movement exists. Not to judge or divide, but to stand together.
To say: maybe this isn’t inevitable. Maybe we can pause. Maybe if we work together we can reset – and give our kids something better.
A new frontier of parenting
In little over 15 years, smartphones have changed the shape of childhood. And the evidence they’re doing more harm than good has become impossible to ignore.
Yet we’ve been left to figure this out alone. There’s no roadmap. No NHS guidance. No government policy. Just families everywhere trying to do their best, up against the most powerful and persuasive companies on the planet.

Everyone wants something better
👫 Parents who’ve given their kids smartphones wish they’d waited
🧑Teachers say smartphones are affecting learning, friendships and focus
🏥 Doctors link smartphones to the teen mental health crisis
📵 Young people wish tech didn’t have such a hold on their lives
The only winners? The tech companies. Because the more time kids spend on their platforms, the more profit they make. Whatever the cost to our kids.
An impossible choice
When every other child has a smartphone with the latest apps on, opting out feels like setting your child apart. So parents face an impossible choice:
☹️ Say yes to a smartphone, and risk your child’s wellbeing
☹️ Or say no, and risk cutting them off from their friends
It’s a classic lose-lose. One which no family should be left to face alone.

Collective action is the answer
Faced with this impossible choice, the solution is to work together.
By collectively agreeing to delay smartphones – in communities across the country – we can turn the tide and reclaim childhood from the tech giants.
And the good news? We’re already proving that when enough of us choose to work together, change isn’t just possible – it’s inevitable.

Our mission is to bring people together to stand up for healthier, happier childhoods.
Smartphone Free Childhood isn’t about banning tech or turning back time – it’s about giving children more of what really matters: time, connection, and freedom to be kids.
We help families delay smartphones and social media together – building community, sharing support, and changing the conversation. Step by step. Brick (phone) by brick (phone).
Because real change doesn’t come from the top down. It starts with all of us, working together. United for childhood.
