The IRL Explorer Passport
[.style-intro] A print-and-go resource of real-world adventures, helping children discover the real-life strengths they already have. [.style-intro]
Ideal for ages 7-11
What it develops
Children work through a series of real-life adventures, organised around four areas of personal development:
- Be here: being present and paying attention to the world and the people in it.
- Find your thing: building confidence in who they are by exploring what they like and what they can get good at.
- Make and create: using imagination to discover they can turn an idea into something real.
- Be brave: building self-belief and independence to take on things that feel daunting, having a go without help, and discovering what they're capable of.
Together, these nurture children's confidence, resilience and self-efficacy, supporting the broad aims of personal development, and health and well-being, while keeping that learning alive over the summer with no preparation required.

Built around reflection
Every adventure in this resource is paired with a reflective question. The Explorer Passport prompts children to look back on what they noticed, what they learned, and how they've grown stronger. This is where the adventure becomes a real discovery about themselves.
By pausing to reflect, children build the self-knowledge that underpins their well-being and the real-world strengths the resource sets out to grow.
What's included
- IRL Explorer Passport
- Certificate of Discovery – an optional resource for schools that wish to award one
- A short guide for grown-ups – resource overview to send home to parents and carers
How to use
The passport is designed to print double-sided on A3, then fold into a booklet. Folding instructions are below. Both colour and black and white versions are available to download, so you can use whichever suits your school.
No prior learning or teaching required. Children work through it independently and at their own pace, doing as much or as little as they like.
The pack also includes a short guide for parents and carers, encouraging them to nurture independence by cheering their child on and resisting the urge to step in.
Back at school, our pre-designed certificate can be used as a positive way to recognise children's summer adventures and spark new conversations about real-life strengths.
