Smartphone Free Childhood (SFC) is a grassroots movement bringing people together to stand up for healthier, happier childhoods. We believe every child deserves time and space to learn, grow, and thrive – free from the addictive pull of smartphones and social media.
Our mission is to bring people together to take a stand for children’s wellbeing – and to equip parents, schools and communities with the tools, confidence and support they need to change culture from the ground up.
Role Overview
As SFCs Full-stack Engineer, you will play a central role in designing, developing, and optimising SFC’s digital products, data systems, and analytics to maximise engagement in our message. You will help us grow our reach across the UK, increase Parent Pact sign-ups, expand our supporter database, and empower organisers to change culture around when kids get smartphones.
This role is both technical and collaborative – combining hands-on engineering with product development, website optimisation, and cross-team strategy. It’s a mission-critical position at the heart of a fast-growing movement with national and international reach – and a bold ambition to positively impact a generation.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Optimisation
- Manage and optimise existing digital products such as the Parent Pact to maximise sign-ups and deepen engagement.
- Develop and build new products such as bespoke surveys and forms that inspire participation and convert users into committed supporters.
- Work with the team to integrate tools and workflows that improve the supporter journey and increase conversion rates.
Data Management & Analysis
- Collect, manage and analyse data across SFC’s digital products and services to generate insights and guide strategy.
- Set up and maintain data pipelines, ensuring accuracy, security, and scalability of supporter and engagement data.
- Build dashboards and reports that help the team measure performance and track progress towards organisational goals.
Website & Digital Analytics
- Collaborate with the team on our website (Webflow and React), customising content and digital products to improve user experience and engagement.
- Use Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, and other tools to track, analyse and improve website and campaign performance.
- Provide recommendations for content and functionality improvements to maximise reach and impact.
Strategic Collaboration
- Work closely with campaigners, organisers and comms team members to ensure data insights inform strategy and decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to use data and technology to increase reach, grow the database, and strengthen the movement.
- Support a culture of learning by helping colleagues interpret data and apply insights.
What we’re looking for
As the lead engineer for SFC, you will be required to work across many parts of the stack, designing new and supporting existing systems, working with data pipelines, web applications, supporting data analysis requests and integrations on the back-end.
Core skills:
- Strong technical skills in data engineering, analytics, and digital product development.
- Working with common web development technologies such as React and JS/TS.
- Demonstrated ability to design and optimise digital journeys for conversion through data, leveraging tools such as Google Analytics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
- Commitment to SFC’s mission and values.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with CRM systems and supporter databases, and developing integrations for these platforms
- Skills in dashboard creation (e.g., Google Data Studio, Power BI, or similar), some familiarity with SQL, BigQuery etc
- Experience working in a startup, scaleup or non-profit context.
What We Offer
- Flexible, remote working.
- Opportunity to shape a fast-growing grassroots movement.
- A collaborative, values-driven environment where your work will directly impact children’s wellbeing and family culture across the UK.
